The athlete entered the previous US Open as the 26th seed.

The tennis professional disclosed he thought about ending his career due to severe back issues throughout the 2025 tennis year.

The 27-year-old, who has reached a career-high ranking of world number three, finished as runner-up to Novak Djokovic in the finals of the 2021 French Open alongside the 2023 Australian Open.

Currently placed as the world's 36th best player after a limited schedule post a early exit in New York in August, Tsitsipas indicated that ongoing treatment is finally showing positive results.

"I'm most excited is to observe how my body responds during regular practice with regard to my injury," commented Tsitsipas.

"My primary worry was whether I was able to finish an encounter," the athlete continued, explaining the pain had troubled him "for the past half a year or more."

"I would wonder, 'Am I able to play in another match without discomfort?'"

"I became truly frightened after the defeat at the US Open [to Germany's Daniel Altmaier]. I was unable to move for two days. That's when you start reconsidering your career's future."

He also reported satisfaction regarding the present treatment regimen after finishing five weeks of off-season preparation without any pain.

He is scheduled to compete with the Greek team in the United Cup, where they face Naomi Osaka's Japan and the British team led by Emma Raducanu. The tournament will be held across Australian cities from 2 to 11 January, the week preceding the season's first major.

"My main goal next season would be to stop worrying over completing bouts," he expressed.

"It provides fantastic feedback realizing you had a pre-season in good health – I hope it continues. I aim to perform during the upcoming season and for the United Cup.

"The effort is invested. The crucial element is complete faith that I can return to where I was. I will attempt everything to achieve that."
