The British tennis star Emma Raducanu has pulled out of her final two events of the year as a result of a medical condition that has affected her for the last week and a half. The 22-year-old was due to play in events in Asia but chose to travel back to regain her health ahead of launching next year's training. These plans will involve trainer Francisco Roig, as both individuals have agreed to work together in 2026. She had her blood pressure taken in her opening round versus Ann Li in Wuhan last week and retired when trailing 6-1 4-1 on an oppressively humid day. Another medical visit was necessary a visit from the doctor at this week's Ningbo Open, where she was defeated in three sets to Zhu Lin, a Chinese wildcard in round one. She was also playing noticeably restricted in the deciding set against Zhu owing to a lower back issue that has been a concern during parts of the season. Such performances signaled a promising season, in which Raducanu rose into the international top 30 for the first time since her previous ranking, concluded with three straight losses. Raducanu had three match points before losing to American player Jessica Pegula in the third round in the Beijing tournament last month. The player achieved 28 matches during 2025 and reached the semi-finals in Washington, but the highlight of her season was at the Miami event in March. The British number one reached the quarter-finals of this WTA 1000 tournament, beating eighth seed Emma Navarro during the tournament before losing in three sets to the world number four Pegula. She worked with Mark Petchey from the Miami event through Wimbledon, with Francisco Roig stepping in for the US Open. The initial agreement with Rafael Nadal's former coach was through the season's conclusion but the partnership will continue, with planned training sessions late this year. She mentioned that her three-day trial with Roig post-Wimbledon was like a "secret mission" as they tried to keep the meeting secret. She came very close to defeating top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka at the first competition with Roig in Cincinnati during August. Roig joined her in New York, where she reached the third round prior to losing to 2022 Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina.
